Handouts & Demonstrations
I’m a big fan of grasses and think they are completely underused in Irish gardens. We have an almost perfect climate for most grasses and they are highly rewarding to include in your plantings. I think plantings should be comprised of at least 25% grasses but all too often I see gardens with none at all! For me they provide a useful backdrop to flowering plants but their biggest contribution comes in the form of late season drama, texture, contrast and movement. Even in the dead of winter they add a sparkle to every planting.
This course explores grasses in detail; what to select, what to plant them with, how to propagate and care for them.
I’ll provide lots of information on how to position grasses plus the best way to utilise the qualities of each grass to its best advantage.
We will look at each grass in detail from the large collection I grow in my borders.
Suitable for planting designers, beginner gardeners and those wanting to learn more about how to include these under-appreciated garden stars. On the day I will also have a nice selection of grasses for sale – ready to plant.
Lunch is provided – usually vegetarian with a twist. Please let mew know if you have any allergies or intolerances at least 7 days before the course.
Full Covid -19 precautions are in place. Fully santised spaces, sanitised and self sanitise after use WC, ventilation in place, masks inside please except when seated.
Coffee & lunch are outside where possible, inside in a large ventilated space when not. Please feel free to request any special measures that make you feel personally safer and we will do our best to accomodate you.
